Content or seeking change, moving from an apartment is tough mentally, physically, and financially.
Maybe you've lived in your apartment for a while and are content with your home. Or, maybe it's time to move on. Whether you hate your apartment or are just looking for a change, it can be difficult mentally, physically, and financially. Here are some tips that will help you get through the process of moving out of an apartment.
Moving into an apartment often requires a security deposit and other upfront costs. The last thing you want to worry about is whether or not you'll be able to watch television, use the internet, or turn up the heat in the middle of winter. Arranging for utilities ahead of time will save you from unnecessary stress and hassle when moving day rolls around.
Opening utilities should be a priority when it comes to moving into your new place. Utilities refer to services like gas, water, electricity, cable, internet, and telephone. While some of these are not necessities, they are important factors that add value to your living space.
It's also important to note that some utilities require a deposit before they can be opened. This means that if you wait until the last minute you could end up spending more money out of pocket on top of everything else required for your move!
Utilities can be opened at any time during one's lease but may take up to 5 days (or more) after activating them before service begins in your home; this is why it is important for renters who are moving into their new apartment know where their utilities are located beforehand so they can call ahead before leaving their old place and set everything up ahead of time!
If you left a mark on the wall, fix it. If you dinged the floor, repair it. If you ripped up the carpet while moving in your couch, replace it.
If you’re not sure what to do, talk to your landlord or management company. They will be able to tell you exactly how they would like the repairs done.
We know it seems like a hassle, but if you don’t fix anything that was broken when you moved in, they will likely keep your security deposit.
Whether you're moving long-distance or locally, you may want to have your mail forwarded. If you are moving locally and plan for the post office to hold your mail for a brief period, you will need to visit the post office in person.
If you are moving out of state and plan for the post office to forward your mail to your new home, it is best to do this online at USPS.com/move. The website will ask for your current address and where you are moving; then provide you with detailed instructions on how to complete your change of address request.
Moving can be an overwhelming process. It’s a good idea to pack a box of your most important items so you don’t have to sort through dozens of boxes when you first get to your new place. Fill this box with things like toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, trash bags, and basic cleaning supplies. Don’t forget the coffee pot! This box should also include a flashlight, toiletries, and any medications you take regularly. You may even want to pack your own bag with ointments and bandages or other first aid supplies, in case you have any minor accidents while unpacking.
Once you've packed up all of your things, it's time to leave the building. No matter your move-out date, it's important to keep in mind that others are still moving in, so you'll be blocking them from doing their own thing if you're still at home when they get there. If this isn't a consideration for you, however, then there's no reason why you should have to move out any earlier than the last day.
EXCELLENT Based on 5 reviews Jelly B.2021-03-26Verified WOW!!!! This company made my day!!! I originally pre-book with Bell hop movers for about 1/ 1/2 month out to made sure things go's smoothly and in a good timeline but bellhop did not show up! I had last minute call with coast movers and they were able to respond and have movers come right away and on time with fair pricing!!!! The guys were very nice and efficient and got the job done!!! I couldn't thank you enough for this company who save my day!!! Paul C.2020-05-02Verified I only needed a baby grand piano to be moved from a friends house in GH to ours in GH, so I contacted Coast Movers. The owner, Jonathan, was great in helping me understand what was involved, and later got me in touch with Jason, who took care of the scheduling. They did a great job in getting the job done around their other bigger jobs, and went out of their way to make it happen seamlessly. The three man crew knew how to handle the instrument, including disassembly, protecting, and re-assembly. All done in a little less than three hours from start to finish. The pricing was fair and honest, and I was more than happy to tip the crew for a job well-done. Oftentimes, some movers will trap customers once they have your items on the truck, only to tell you then that the price is going to be more than quoted. I've had that happen to me in the past, but in this case, the price was exactly what I was told it would be! Now I understand why Coast Movers has been in business for 15-years. It was a bonus to find a local company to support, too. Thank you, Coast Movers and the excellent crew who helped us with this project yesterday! Iain K.2018-09-04Verified We are delighted with the professionalism, promptness, and pleasantness of our three man team. Everything was moved carefully, packed well, and we'll. Placed in our new home. I hope we never have to move again, but if we do we will certainly use coast Movers. Katherine A.2017-08-14Verified The 3 man team that moved my son was amazing. For 7 hours they did not stop moving except for a short lunch break. Coast Movers moved from a 3 story place with lots of tight corners to a 2 story with more tight corners and didn't damage a single wall or piece of furniture. They brought supplies to protect our walls and doorways and furniture and treated every box/piece of furniture like it was their own. Ryan L.2017-03-29Verified I've used Coast Movers more than once in the past. I've also referred friends and family. I've experienced and heard nothing but great things! I'd definitely recommend them if you're in search of moving service in or near the Gig Harbor, Seattle, or Kitsap area! Good communication and easy to deal with! The price quotes And expected move times were right on the money. And prices were lower than expected. Always Less than competitor's prices.
