Nestled in the Northwest corner of America, Washington D.C. is one of the country’s most flourishing states. The state consists of a diverse population, the majority of which is educated. It is also known to be home to some of America’s biggest franchises, including java giant Starbucks, aircraft manufacturer Boeing, and tech titans Amazon and Microsoft.
Tucked between the great Pacific and the imposing Mount Rainier, Washington is abundantly blessed in glorious natural features and wonderful sights and scenery. If you’re considering a move to America’s capital, here’s what you can look forward to.
It has amazing outdoor activities
Washington is home to three national parks: the aforementioned Mt. Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades. Popular outdoor activities range from hiking to sailing to pleasure boating to whale watching. During the cold months, it becomes a winter paradise with numerous locations where winter activities like skiing and snowboarding are possible.
If you love hiking, mountain climbing, sailing, kayaking, camping, or any other outdoor activity, Washington is a wonderful place to live. It has plenty of scenic sites to visit, the cherry on top being the glorious 14,140-foot mountain that lies southeast of Seattle.
There are jobs galore
The population of Washington is growing at a steady rate, and the living standards are generally great. That’s because the state is home to some of the biggest employers in the world. There’s Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, which has created over 53,000 jobs in Seattle alone, one of the world’s largest airline makers, Boeing, Microsoft, and Starbucks.
One specific region is known as the heartbeat of the state as far as employment generation is concerned, and that is the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area. Agriculture is also a driving force behind Washington’s economy. The state’s varied climate is conducive for apple and cherry production, and it is also known as a leading producer of seafood.
Great schools
Washington is perhaps most notably known as a learning state. It has a large number of two-year and four-year institutions spread across the state, not to mention two of the largest universities in America, the University of Washington and Washington State University.
The majority of the two-year institutions in the state are open-access, and a state law passed in 2015 reduced tuition fees in four-year colleges by between 15 and 20 per cent. For those in pursuit of knowledge, Washington is a great state to live in.
Affordable statewide housing
Houses in Seattle are a bit pricey, but that’s understandable considering how industrious the city is. However, even in the priciest neighborhoods, Washington has affordable housing options. For example, Kitsap County provides cheap housing for people living around the metro area, and it is just a short ferry ride away. The eastern side has Spokane, which is the home of Gonzaga University.
There are also options like Vancouver, Wash, just before the Oregon State line, and Tacoma, which is also known to have great housing options.
